Infant Colic

Infant colic is one of the most common conditions affecting babies during their first few months. The baby typically cries continuously for no apparent reason for more than 3 hours a day and for more than 3 days. In most cases, no medical intervention is needed, as symptoms usually disappear by the age of 3–4 months.

Some symptoms of infant colic include:

  • Signs of pain on the baby’s face
  • The baby pulling their legs up
  • Bloating or gas

The exact cause of colic is still unknown, but some methods can help relieve the baby’s symptoms:

  • Using low-lactose or lactose-free formula
  • Replacing cow’s milk in the mother’s diet with soy milk
  • The mother following a low-allergen diet by reducing intake of nuts, eggs, and dairy
  • Giving the baby a warm bath
  • Holding and cuddling the baby to soothe them
