Narmeen Jamal Al-Awwad is an Associate Professor, and Head of both the Nutrition and Integrative Health
Department and the Medical Analysis and Laboratory Sciences Department at
Middle East University. Previously, she held the position of Head of the
Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics Department at the Hashemite University.
Dr. Al-Awwad's academic journey began
at The University of Jordan, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in 2000,
Master's degree in 2004, and Ph.D. in 2012, all from the Department of
Nutrition and Food Technology within the Faculty of Agriculture. Her commitment
to advancing the science and awareness of nutrition is evident through her
various roles and activities, including serving as President of the Jordanian
Dietetics Association (JDA) since two years ago.
Her mission is to enhance public knowledge and
understanding of nutrition through research, education, and counseling. She is
passionate about empowering individuals to make better food choices to improve
their health. Dr. Al-Awwad has actively participated in numerous international,
regional, and national conferences, symposiums, and scientific events,
contributing significantly to the field with 30 published scientific papers in
refereed journals. Her research interests encompass functional foods, such as
probiotics and prebiotics, pediatric nutrition, sports nutrition, and dietary
patterns related to chronic diseases.
In addition to her academic and research pursuits, Dr. Al-Awwad is an active member of various professional committees. She serves on the Health Education Clinic committee at the Hashemite University, the technical committee for creating educational materials on complementary feeding and feeding diversity for children under five years old at the Ministry of Health, and the scientific committee of the Jordanian Dietetic Association (JDA). Dr. Al-Awwad has also been involved in several local technical committees, such as the “Athletes Food” Committee and the “Foods for Special Use” Committee at the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA), and the Juice and Beverage Committee at the Jordanian Institute for Standardization and Metrology.
